Guide · Borders

Passports and customs,
privately.

Flying private does not exempt anyone from border control. It makes it faster: the checks happen at the executive terminal, in minutes, without queues.

Within Schengen

Flights between Schengen countries (Madrid to Paris, Geneva, Milan or Lisbon) have no systematic border control. Carry a valid passport or EU identity card: operators and authorities can always check identity.

Entering or leaving Schengen

Flights to or from the UK, the US, Morocco, Dubai or any non-Schengen country go through passport control and customs. At Madrid-Barajas these are done at the executive terminal. Non-EU travellers need a valid passport and any visa required for their nationality.

The EU Entry/Exit System

Since October 2025 the EU registers non-EU short-stay travellers digitally at the external border, with fingerprints and a facial image, instead of stamping passports. It applies on private flights too; the first registration takes a few extra minutes. ETIAS, the pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers, is not yet required: check the official site before you fly.

Cash and valuables

Anyone entering or leaving the EU with €10,000 or more in cash, or its equivalent in other currencies, cheques, travellers’ cheques, money orders or certain gold, must declare it. The rule is the same on a private jet.
